Mass of the Americas Triumphs in Old New York

The Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral was filled with worshipers January 15th, as Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone celebrated the Mass of the Americas as a Solemn Pontifical High Mass with the Benedict Sixteen Choir and Orchestra.

Mass of the Americas is a twinned tribute to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (patroness of the United States) and Our Lady of Guadalupe (patroness of Mexico and all the Americas).

“The most important thing that happened Saturday is that we came together to worship God in a solemn and fitting way. Christ came. We shared his Body and Blood,” said Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, “This Mass of the Americas at Old St Patrick's Cathedral was an example of continuity in Catholic worship, adhering faithfully to the principles laid out in the Second Vatican Council’s Dogmatic Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium and the post-Conciliar documents on the Liturgy.  Catholic worship is one, and treasuring the beauty and solemnity of our Catholic patrimony while contributing to it in our own time, in keeping with how the Church has always worshipped, was the vision of this Mass.”
